Depends what you mean by destroy. If I throw your laptop in the bath it will be "destroyed" although it will physically be the same as it was before I threw it in. Destroy usually means "remove functionality" not "render to atoms"
oh hey look I've become a running joke

Yes it would be bad.

The point is it wouldn't >destroy the planet<
What would survive? The irradiated rocks would be fine.

The world wouldn't turn into Fallout.

Really it comes down to HOW the nukes are detonated. If the US and Russia or China lob nukes at each other, the planet would certainly suffer, but it probably wouldn't be the end of everything.

If, on the other hand, Trump went around nuking everyone and everybody, then yeah, we could end up with Mad Max, minus all the magic gasoline that appears in those movies.

Even if the actual nuclear devastation was limited to just a few countries the mass population movements, resource wars and famines that followed would cause enormous devastation and possibly civilisation collapse.

Maybe. I wouldn't really bet on civilization in, say, Africa or South America being unbalanced by it, though.

Oh noes!
Quote
A person close to the White House told the Los Angeles Times that President Mr. T. and White House chief of staff John Kelly had engaged in “shouting matches” in recent days.

“Kelly has sought to limit Mr. T.’s free time and to prevent outsiders from bringing him unfiltered and sometimes inaccurate information that can rile him up… More often, though, Kelly and others on his side are frustrated.”

“The president, meanwhile, is said to be discomfited not only by the attempts to control him, but by the recent departure of his longtime lieutenant, Keith Schiller, who had been White House director of operations and, perhaps most important, a key interpreter and soother of Mr. T.’s feelings.”
Hello, this is Killian. Give me the Justice Department, Entertainment Division. No, no, hold that, Operator? Get me the President's agent.

President Kelly’s deputy Kirstjen Nielsen is moving from the white house to head up DHS. This is one of two things:
1. Kelly's enemies pushed her out by giving her an offer she couldn't refuse as it's a promotion she would have to say yes to and Kelly wouldn't ask her to turn something like that down
2. Kelly placed her there as he's getting ready to get the fuck out within the next few months.

After the initial stories broke in regards to Congress and Bobby the Mule investigating Russians using Facebook,  Google, Pinterest(!??), etc to cause strife I mostly left the story alone it's just not that dramatic yet but this interests me alot:
Quote
“A data firm backed by some of Donald Trump’s closest allies is now facing scrutiny as part of an investigation into possible collusion between the president’s team and Russian operatives,” the Daily Beast reports.

“The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) is looking at Cambridge Analytica’s work for President Trump’s campaign as part of its investigation into Russian efforts to meddle in the 2016 race… The company is in the process of turning over documents to HPSCI… Another source close to the investigation said that the probe’s focus on Cambridge Analytica is ‘fruitful.'”

So President Kelly has allies or direct subordinates at:
the DoD to provide a quick reaction force and air power.
The DoHS controlling our roads, borders, airports, and ports.
State to calm allies.

Now he just needs the FBI and IT will be bloodless.

Its sad I live near some of the places the first movie was filmed and not much has changed  :( I was travelling through Clunes the other day and hasn't changed at all.

So Cambridge Analytica does the research and passes it to the Assange and Russia passes Assange the data to release.  Is that the theory?

I think it was more that Russia gave Cambridge Analytical things they wanted to give to Trump's campaign directly? Or that Cambridge went fishing for information Russia or others had obtained illegally?

It's the amount of dots that are here rather than how they may connect that interest me:

1. CA is a shadowy organization that managed to fly under the radar in both brexit and a presidential campaign and yet provided an array of very specific data about voters in two countries and no one really knows how.
2. Steve Bannon convinces...
3...the Mercer family to dump a shit ton of money in CA and then the Trump Campaign...
4...has CA work with Jared Kushner who heads up the campaigns data/voter outreach which during the campaign very few people even know the campaign had any "voter outreach" as there were a multitude of stories saying that the Trump campaign expected the RNC do to that for them.
5. All of the what passed for the campaign was in the Dark Tower except for this data center which was located in Houston iirc. The office housed the Trump campaign and CA....
6...and had full time space for the likes of Google and Facebook

It's...odd.

Good morning and welcome to the Thursday Selection Show!

In a truly stunning turn of events last weeks Friday Night News Dump contained no shocking revelations. What could be more shocking than that!...thus leaving most contestants are in worse shape than my liver.

Scoreboard says!
Kemal -0
Vanek -0
Leo -1
Crom -2
Hypno -2
Rahl -2
Crom - 2
Evry  -3
Wavey -3

If they choose wisely perhaps they can dig themselves out of the whole. This is also an excellent week to start playing as a new contestant as you would be ahead of seven of our players and tied for first!  As a reminder here are the rules:

Will this weeks Friday Night News Dump be about the following and yes you can choose more than one:

A. Paul Manafort
B. Michael Flynn
C. Jared Kushner
D. General Mr. T. RUSSIA not involving any of the three persons of interest above
E. Corruption involving the Mr. T. Org and/or Mr. T. Org properties
F. Corruption involving current executive branch staffers
G. Someone getting fired from the executive and/or "seeking other opportunities" or "spending more time with their family"
H. Trump's mental state or irrational behavior

Remember you can choose as many as you like but you you lose one point for every wrong answer just as you get one point for every correct answer. Stories must break between 3pm-Midnight EST this Friday, October 13th. Willing to expand list of FAKE NEWS sources but all decisions of the judges are final. Submit answers no later than 1pm EST Friday.

So this is happening:

Happiness. Is it defined by your coming bloodless coup of the federal government or because you know you will be handing over your walking papers to Elderly King Joffrey soon? A lot depends on the answer to this question.

Apparently Trump said something in an interview where the national debt is offset by gains in the stock market. I don't know the exact context.

Isn't "I'm definitely not quitting or being fired" one of the signs you're about to quit or be fired?
